Retired Prince George’s County Police Sergeant Michelle Grimes is training Bowie Police Officers twice a month. They learn how to recognize someone with Autistic behavior and how to allow them the space and time to communicate and de-escalate. The police officers at Bowie Police Department have very receptive and eager to learn tactics that can help calm down someone with Autism who is distraught with anxiety and feelings of being overwhelmed. This is a photo of Brad and Kenny Benjamin with the Chief of Prince George’s County Police Chief Stawinski. Brad and Kenny are both on the Autism spectrum and as ambassadors of AFYI, help officers become familiar with what they might expect to see.
